Disability and Determination is a weekly newsletter about my experience living with a rare disability…with a little bit of meditation, pop culture, and other random things thrown in.
I have what I call my "Sunday Spa Shower", wherein I deep condition my hair and exfoliate. I love a good ritual. They are another form of meditation. Love this, Jackie. If you haven't tried Tea Forte, you should. I love a good loose leaf organic tea, and theirs are yummy. xo
Sometimes we are so in sync 😂 Tea Forte is one of my faves! I like to buy their tea sets/boxes as gifts too. Love your “Sunday Spa Shower” ritual too! So true that they’re another form of meditation. ❤️
Love this Sunday spa shower, you’ve reminded me of how when I used to hair remove and exfoliate I really used to feel like I had my shit together 😆 this was in life before burnout, breakdown and chronic illness took hold. It was a lovely memory to be reminded of - thank you.
Lovely post, thank you Jackie. And great timing for me, feeling a bit burnt out lately so overdue in paying self care more attention, absolutely essential when living with a chronic illness 💕
Thank you so much for reading Jane! I’m so sorry you’ve been feeling burned out. Dealing with a chronic illness is just so much. Hope you can find a great self-care routine that makes you feel awesome ❤️
Such a great post. I have been on deck caring for my father non-stop, but this past weekend I was able to go into the city and use my Hilton points to stay in a king room overlooking the sea. It was so quiet and when I wasn't in meetings, for the first time in ages... I did absolutely nothing. It was heaven.
Love that so much! I think you’ve just given me inspiration for something else to add to my self-care list. Taking care of ourselves is a lot but then taking care of another loved one definitely increases the need for some real, hardcore self-care. Glad you were able to get some time in for some of your own.
Loving your thoughts here! I have taken a liking to voice notes as well -- if what I need to say is any longer than a couple of text lines, I audio it instead. And I love hearing my friends and family's voices (without the commitment of an unknown length of time on the telephone -- guess that's the millennial in me?? =)
So nice to find another voice note appreciator 😊 You put it perfectly too, you get the benefit of hearing your loved one's voices without the commitment of a phone call. This millennial definitely appreciates that too!
Great post. I used to think self care was a spa day, getting my hair done, beauty apts etc and when I needed self care the most, I stripped them back and left myself with nothing. Not a move I will ever repeat again😆
Now you’re latter list are my non-negotiable. Everyday self care. (Though I include de Morning, lunch and night.
Hadn’t finished that before it sent 🙃 though I did write a post about it myself and always intended to write more which I haven’t done yet. Such an important topic.

Love that we are both seen, Jackie. LOL. xo

I'm starting to like the idea of voice notes vs texts, too. So much quicker and easier.
They really are!
