I have a confession to make…I kind of like Sundays.
They feel like a refresh—the end of a week and the beginning of a new one. The last day to sleep in. A day to get brunch with your friends or have a “Sunday Funday”. A day to just relax…or a day to get some chores done.
I usually get some chores and cleaning done during the day which makes everything literally feel fresh and clean for the upcoming week. Sunday nights are my self-care portion of the day. If I can, I do one of my chair workouts. Then I’ll usually read, do some gratitude practice or meditation, maybe some writing. I might throw a skincare face mask in there. I’ll catch up on some of my favorite shows and maybe call a friend. I always make sure I’m cozy in bed with enough time to wind down and fall asleep at a decent hour. Then I’m ready for another week.
I’ll admit, I didn’t always like Sundays. When I had a very stressful and toxic job, the pit in my stomach would start on Saturday. I would dread what might be waiting for me in the coming week, or the workload I would be faced with. It made it hard for me to even enjoy my weekends because I was so overwhelmed with dread most of the time. I believe this is what they call the “Sunday Scaries”. I think I had these when I was in school too. Not college so much, but all levels before that. Lord did we have to get up early too.
If you happened to suffer from the Sunday Scaries, this article has some helpful tips on how you can try combat those and tell them to get lost.
I know I’m very fortunate to have a job that I don’t dread going to on Monday, and that’s probably a big reason why I’m able to like Sundays so much. Having a job you look forward to doing/going to can make a huge difference, so I’m grateful to have that.
It looks like I’m not the only one who has an affinity for this particular day of the week too. Jason Tolete wrote a great article on why Sundays are his favorite day. I’ve never been a church goer like Jason was, so thankfully Sunday has never been a day where I have to get up early.
I’ll leave you with some fun facts about Sunday before I ask…what’s your favorite day of the week?
And on the topic of Sundays, here’s one of my millennial heart’s favorite songs with the word “Sunday” in it:
I agree with Sandra. I prefer Saturdays because it's famer's market day. But, like you, Sundays are either laundry/cleaning days or movie days. As in going to the theater to see a movie. Also, I LURVE this song by No Doubt. This is one of many songs of theirs on my iPod.
For me, it's Saturdays. That's the day I can sleep in and do as much or as little as I want. Sundays are lovely. Usually, there's an F1 grand prix I wake up for (6, 5 or 4 AM...yes, I'm that much of a fan), then laundry and food shopping, getting gas every other week. Then I make bone broth. After that, I can finally relax. LOL. Maybe have a nap. It's deserved. Your Sundays sound lovely, Jackie. xo
